Mapping Your Local Environment (MYLE)

MYLE equips local journalists and community members with GIS skills to investigate environmental justice issues in their own backyards. It transforms complex data into accessible, place-based storytelling that elevates frontline voices.

Mapping Your Local Environment (MYLE) is a hands-on program that combines technical training with justice-centered storytelling. Launched in 2024, MYLE supports local environmental journalists in cities like Atlanta, Detroit, and Brooklyn to use GIS tools for uncovering environmental injustices - whether it’s heat islands, industrial pollution, or infrastructure siting. By bridging data with lived experience, MYLE ensures that communities most affected by environmental harm have the tools to tell their own stories, challenge official narratives, and advocate for systemic change.
